Jordana Rae Gassner
Contemporary American artist in Bavaria, Germany
Jordana Rae was born in the Black Hills in South Dakota, USA and attended La Universidad de las Americas in Mexico City, Mexico, the University of Bergen in Bergen, Norway and Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in 1999.
She often delves into myth and fantasy with her work, using mainly oil paints. For this project with the ASBP, she’s created a special edition series of abstract expressionistic ink and acrylic pieces.
From the series “Gold Rausch”, these are fantasy pieces depicting imaginary figures in a world very different from our own. What is interesting is the perspective; on the canvases, they are all roughly the same size, but if one were to meet these beings and/or places “in person”, they would all be much larger or much smaller than how one perceives them on the same sized space. It’s an exercise in experiencing large and small things as of equal “value”.
“Not everyone is an artist but everyone is a fucking critic.”
Marcel Duchamp
