About Fotolateras Fotografas
We are the Fotolateras because we make photos with tin cans. We build cameras from metal boxes in which we make a tiny hole and with these dark boxes we dedicate ourselves to freezing images on photosensitive paper.

It was more than ten years ago that we decided that that was what we were going to dedicate our lives to doing.

We soon saw the light and started moving towards it …light as a generator of image, life, and knowledge. We wanted to be absorbed in its magic and make it our own.

We like to say we ‘cook’ our photos: the tin can would be the oven, the paper, the pizza and on opening the small hole which serves as a shutter, the light would be the heat. We must calculate the time because if we leave it too long it would burn and if we don’t leave it long enough it would come out uncooked.

Our first pinhole photography trip was to Bologna. The world opened up before us: we had the possibility of traveling with our cameras to different latitudes and cultures to study the unique light of each one of them.

From Paris to New York, Marrakesh, Berlin or Bodrum, we haven’t stopped traveling with 45 tins with 3 different objectives: a tea tin (50mm), a square Illy coffee tin (large angular) and another round Illy coffee tin (fisheye).

In order to develop photos the same day, we travel with the essentials and we set up really funny laboratories in hotel bathrooms. Our equipment consists of 45 tins, developing trays, chemical liquids, a red light, tongs – all the essentials necessary to cook our images and see the results at the end of the day.
